 La Guillotine French Restaurant  

La Guillotine opened as a traditional French omelette house in 1967 in
the basement of 9 Albion place. It was extremely popular in the seventies
when people came to eat the omelettes, onion soup, homemade paté
and on a Friday a special bouillabaisse was on offer.

At this time La Guillotine was only licensed for wine. It became fully
licensed in the late eighties. The omelette menu remained but many
more French dishes were added to the entrèe and mains menus,
which were written on blackboards hanging on the red walls.

Many people have been to La Guillotine over the years, never forgetting
the very red walls, the iron bars in the archways and the Parisian
atmosphere, emphasized by Edith Piaf and Charles Aznavour playing
in the background.

Always a great place to take your Valentine and one to enjoy the
celebrations of Bastille Day too. La Guillotine saw people
from all over the world during the Sydney Olympics and became a
wonderful mixing pot of nationalities, lots of late nights, new friendships
and great memories.
La Guillotine sadly closed its doors at 9 Albion Place on 31st August 2001
due to new building developments. The 'old' La Guillotine has since been
demolished.

Fortunately a new site was found for 'La Guillotine' only a stones throw
away from the old place.Plenty of hard work and patience were needed
to convert the office space into a restaurant. Finally resulting in
La Guillotine being re-born in September of 2002 at 518 Kent Street,
which actually corners with the old Albion laneway.
La Guillotine now has two floors. The red theme is still there as are
Edith, Charles and the Parisian atmosphere everyone came to love.
The basement is very reminiscent of the 'old' La Guillotine with the arches
and iron bars and has already been host to some amazing parties and
special occasions.
The ground floor looks down onto Kent Street and can be opened up
to take in the warm Sydney nights. The menu still has the omelettes,
pate and onion soup and plenty of French favourites such as moules
marinere, escorgots, crepes and Chateau-briand bearnaise and lots
more besides.
